I love this phone so far. It looks slick - although I think the design is very simplistic. I like the large screen - but I would really like the size to be a little smaller. Though its pretty light.

What I love about the phone is the UI. The UI is very well designed and task oriented. I have used multiple touch screen phones so far and most reviews actually ignore the basic part of the phone which is the "Calling" or Phone feature. Most phones I always have trouble with buttons when I am on the call - and have to respond to automated messages. Some phones are terrible - some are Ok but still requires a couple steps before you lauch the key pad every time you enter a response. This phone however, goes blank when talking but as soon as you take the phone off your ears, it brings up the keypad. Whick is simply brilliant. Took me exactly 5 steps to get all my firends/numbers and contacts from facebook, google windows live and outlook. The other cool feature is the linking of same contacts from different sources. You see them one, and can select the contact and perform different actions - call, send email to different addresses, text etc. The social network aspects are integrated very well - like photos are automatically displayed from all sources in one place - and you can see and add comments as well.

The camera is decent with bright flash. The battery life is good - but I think could have been better. Browser is alright but no support for flash or silverlight.

Overall I think its a great phone with not too much flashy features but one of the best from usability standpoint.

I am writing this review after 2 weeks of use with the HD7.

The phone comes with about 14gigs of usable storage space, which is more then adequate for my music and video collection.
Now about the zune player software that comes with the phone, , to browse through songs in shuffle mode, is even faster then the iphone4 ( it also has much more visuals than the iphone4, it displays the album art and also the artist at the same time ).
The only problem the zune has is that it cannot do a music search in your library by pressing the search button. it just takes you to the marketplace ( probably in future updates might fix that )
Also for wireless syncing, I had to turn off the wifi on my phone and re-enable it for the zune pc to recognize the phone. They should to resolve that as well.
So the zune music player software is top notch, but it needs minor upgrades here.

The 4.3 inch screen is SUPER sensitive, even with a screen protector on. The screen although has less pixels than the iphone4 ( hardly noticeable ), is more sensitive.

Navigating though the phone's menus are very fluid and fast,,,, like if you want to change the theme of the phone, after you are finished, hit the windows button.( it will take you back to the homescreen ). If you want to change the theme again, just hit the 'back' button on the phone, and it will take you back to the theme options. Very fast and handy.

Other nice free features are the skydrive and facebook integration ( twitter is absent oddly ). With skydrive, all your contacts that are aded to the phone is automatically and instantly uploaded to you windows live account ( so if your phone gets stolen, lost or broken you still have your important information). It also has features to find your phone, remote lock and erase. Apple recently added the last features to iOS devices for free, but the upload information is still a paid service.

For the very few bugs that the phone has, microsoft i presume is working on an update that will be rolled out in Q1 of 2011.

One of the best phones I've used. I've tried other smartphones and this one is very good.

First I'll talk about the phone hardware then the OS.

Hardware:

Very solid phone, beautiful and large screen and the feel of the device is very nice in the hands. The rubberized material on the back lets you hold the device without dropping it. Feels pretty light and really this is the size smartphones should be; the screen is absolutely perfect.

The power button I feel is a little small - it needs to be a little taller so its easier to push to power on, maybe its just the case I have it in now that makes it a little hard to push in.

Volume switches - I find I accidently push these quite often and it changes the volume. While it's great they are available we should have an option to lock the volume rocker/buttons so they dont constantly keep changing the volume.

Camera button - very nice and allows you to quickly take photos with a single click!! The camera does have an issue where it makes whites look pink - there is supposedly a fix coming from htc to address this; appaerantly this same bug was in the htc hd2 and htc fixed that; this is a problem with htc's driver not with windows phone 7. The dual led flash on this device is fantastic and allows you to take nice bright photos at 5 megapixel - obviously not the best camera in the world at 5mp but for a cell phone its really good. HTC throws in a nice flashlight app that they make which allows you to use the dual leds as a flashlight anytime you want - its really really bright - in a pitch black room it lights the entire room up - crazy cool!

Soft buttons - the buttons on the bottom of the screen - back, windows and search work great and are very responsive - touch them and easily take you back to the main screen, go back in an application or launch the search applications. Many times if you accidentally press these buttons while in a game you can easily drag your finger away and it wont kill the game and take you out of it - very nice feature so you dont accidentally keep quitting an app/game.

The speakers on this device are pretty good; I havent had any problem at all with these speakers and they are quite loud when listening to music, playing games or on the speakerphone with someone else. The clarity is pretty good too.

The sound quality on the device is excellent when taking calls; recipients have no problem hearing you either.

Call quality/signal - no problems at all with this phone; havent had a single dropped call when using this phone, you can easily switch to speaker phone at anytime by tapping on the screen and choosing the speakerphone option - switching is instant and smooth.

Battery life - I easily get one and 1/2 days usage out of this even with wifi and 3g on. Very good phone even if you are very busy and need to do some browsing, emailing and taking calls. Recharging the phone is pretty quick too whether you plugin to the wall or your computer. The plug is a standard micro? usb plug. It comes with an adapter that allows you to plug the standard usb end into a wall socket to get AC power too - very nice design.

Software:

The new Windows Phone 7 OS is very fluid, slick and responsive - no slow downs at all and smooth all the way through. Very easy to understand and use. You simply swipe down and up to choose any application you want. Need something on the 'homescreen' simply tap and hold it - whether its a contact from your address book, an app, or a game you can easily organize and choose whatever you want to be on the front.

Swipe to the right and you have the entire list of all applications installed. All games are organized in the xbox live section so there is no clutter. The operating system was very well thought out and organized and is not a mess of static icons found on other smartphones.

Live tiles are excellent - when the weather upates - it shows you the temperature and the conditiosn outside (snowing, rain, sunny, cloudy, fog, etc). It shows you the day and month, time obviously, how many emails you have, how many voice messages you have, how many missed phone calls. You don't need to keep pressing deep down to find this information - its all right there on the main screen. If you want to pull the phone out of your pocket and glance down you can do that too right on the lock screen - it shows all of that information there too. Beautiful and efficient; no fiddling all day with your phone unless you really want to.

Over 4000 applications are now available in the marketplace, many of the games available are xbox live compatible - full gamerscore, achievements, buddy lists, invites, sending/receiving messages all built right in. My uncle in Georgia has one of these, and I live in Michigan. When I first heard of Magic Jack it intrigued me that he was only paying $19.95 a year for phone service. So I had to check it out. So I went to the web site, and I did a lot of reading. After talking it over with my wife, we decided to try it out. It only took a couple of days to get it, and set up was easy, but when I plugged a phone in it to make a call, it was horrible. Though I remember reading some where that a power USB hub could fix this problem. So I order one up, and waited. Once it arrived, I hooked everything up to my computer, and started making calls. It worked great! Every time, with every call. I have been running it for a week, and no problems. In my personal option, no digital phone service will ever sound like a regular phone line. I know people the have Vonage, and Packet8, and this works just as great as those, maybe even better. I also have slowest DSL possible (768k), and sounded great, even when I was downloading files on the internet.

To those who have had problems:

1. Read everything before you buy. I have noticed on the internet people complaining about how it doesn't work. It is a piece of technology, and even though it is supposed to be an easy thing, it may require some reading on your part to learn how to make it work. Everything can be found in the FAQ's section on their Magic Jack's website.
2. If you buy this item and don't work, like bad reception, or no dial tone, broken conversation, get a Powered USB hub. For 15 bucks, it makes it run great, and I have a lot more USB ports now.

Pros:

* I like the fact that is cheap. $19.95 a year cheap! I like to save money, who wouldn't in today's world?
* The fact I can call long distance for free, and saving money.
* The call quality is great, if my 83 grandmother could hear me, and understand what I am talking about, then the sound quality has to be decent.
* It can go with me if I ever decide to travel, I am too poor to do that right now.

Cons:
* The fact that I had to get a USB hub to make it work great. On the web site it says plug and go. If I wouldn't have read about it I probably never would got it to work.
* Their tech support could be better, I never have used it, but from what I have read, it isn't all that great.
* In order to use it, your computer has to be on. I leave my computer on 24/7 anyway so it doesn't bother me any. To those that shut off your computer at night then your phone wouldn't work, and who wants a call at 3am anyway?
* No local area code for me yet. Though there might be one someday.

There may be other quirks that I don't know about, but all know the problems I had when I first hooked it up, versus how it works with a hub, I doubt I will have an real issues with it.

I have been using MJ for a while and here are a few things to consider.

1)Magic jack is not a standalone device.
2)It needs a Windows or Mac based computer to operate.
3)Needs a high speed internet connection..Will not work on dial up.
4)Computer needs to be on to be able to use MJ..No sleep,hibernate or standby.
5)Needs to be directly connected to the USB port on the PC and not a hub. The primary reason for this..in layman's terms is : The device draws power from the USB. In a distributed setting like a hub, there may not be enough power to support the device. Not saying it will not not work but you WILL have issues.

Installation : Just plug the device on a available usb port and the software and drivers install automatically. Once installed, you will see the MJ softphone on your desktop. Now quickly go to the MJ website and do an upgrade. Steps are pretty simple.

Firewall Settings: Add UDP port 5060 and 5070 to the windows firewall exceptions.

Operation: Once you have the MJ device connected to the USB and the other end to a standard phone, you are ready to make and receive calls.

Call Volume: In the audio proprieties, select tigerjet as playback device and increase vol to approx 60%. Do the same for recording device OR adjust to your preference.

System Resources: Like I mentioned before, the MJ application runs on your computer and hence competes for system resources. I will not go into setting application priorities but if you can do it, it will work better..Having said that, MJ's performance will suffer when you are running a resource intensive application on your computer while running MJ. For eg..graphic softwares, games, movie playbacks etc are very resource intensive and use a lot of processor and memory. So please be warned in advance unless you have a really powerful computer. Times like this you will notice patchy voice quality, cut outs etc etc...

Reset: I personally like to unplug and replug the mj atleast once a day or just restart my computer. I know this can be a chore. There is a solution. In XP goto start>run and type in control userpassword2. Once you get the dialog box, just uncheck where it says, user needs to enter a user name and password to use this computer. Next go to control panel scheduled tasks and click add scheduled task. In the wizard, click browse and goto windows>system32>shutdown.exe. Set the task to run daily at a time of your choice. Check the advanced check box and hit ok and come out of it. Now in the advanced dialogue, where it says run add a space and type in /r. The process prompts in for passwords. Type it in. Now your XP is set to restart at a predefined time daily and go directly to your desktop without any user input in form of a user name and password.

Issues: Call quality. As mentioned before, it can depend on the resources on your computer. Also depends on the the internet speed. Sometimes, you might be set to receive a certain bandwidth, but it may not be always the case. What you receive in real-time might be different from what is on paper. It is a good practice to reset your cable or DSL router once in while. When it comes to wifi, it is majorly affected by interference. So make sure if you are on wifi, you are at a place in the house with minimum interference. TV,Fridge, Microwave etc cause interference to your wifi signals. Cable users ..not sure about DSL ...are on shared bandwidth. Meaning..a bandwidth slab is allotted to x number of users. So say if in a group of users, few of them are streaming a High def video, it is that much off your bandwidth. So sometimes you will see slow internet connection and slow is not very good for your mj.

Final Conclusions:MJ casts about $1.60 a month to use as a service BUT the hidden costs need to factored in. Consider the fact that the computer needs to be on to use it. So that adds to your electric bill. I recommend using a low end dedicated computer like a used laptop for MJ. Or you can get a thin client which cost pennies to run. The call quality is good. You can take it anywhere..But ultimately, optimum performance depends on all the factors I have discussed above.

Hope this write up will help you make an informed decision before you buy.

The key to using Magicjack without any problems is to research information on it first to decide whether it's right for you *and* whether it will work for you. It's not really as easy as 1-2-3 nor will it work magically despite its name. You need to exceed its miminum system requirements, have high speed internet service (like cable), and YES, your PC has to be on with your internet connection available for Magicjack to work. But for $20 a year (initially cost is $39.95 for the Magicjack with 1 year phone service), to me, Magicjack is a great product which provides free unlimited long distance across the country and local phone service. However, Magicjack should not be your only phone service because if your electricity or internet connection goes out, Magicjack won't work. At least also have use of a cell phone service.

I bought my Magicjack from its website [...] and received it in less than a week after I ordered it. If you want the option of returning it easily should you decide not to use it, most people on the web recommend buying it from a store like Walmart, Radioshack, Best Buy or even QVC. It took me less than 10 minutes to install Magicjack (plug it into your PC's USB), register it, pick a phone number in my area and start using it. For me, deciding which number to use took the longest time. I live basically in Philadelphia, PA so there were a lot of local numbers I could select. The [...] site lists its available area codes and phone prefixes. Not all areas are available yet so make sure you can select a local phone number for your needs before buying Magicjack. Keep in mind that if you use a non-local phone number for your Magicjack, people that call you may incur toll charges or long distance charges.

After Magicjack was up and running, I tested it by making calls to and receiving calls from landline phones, cell phones, Vonage phone service users and other Magicjack users. Everyone I called commented that they can hear me clearly. I also had no trouble hearing them just as well. No echoes, no static, no disconnections, no strange noises. The longest phone call I've made so far lasted about a little over an hour.

Now, mind you, my Magicjack is on an IBM X41 laptop which has 1.49GB RAM, 1.50Ghz Pentium M processor and Windows XP (Professional) SP3. Magicjack is basically the only main application that is running on this computer. You do not need a dedicated PC for Magicjack but it won't work as well on a computer that have other large applications such as multi-media, graphic programs, email systems and games running at the same time. My internet connection is cable and I have a wireless router but the computer with Magicjack is connected "wired" to the router. I specifically wanted to test Magicjack on this type of system setup so that I couldn't blame any problems I might encounter on any other factor. I also wanted a system that I could leave running for 24 hours if I decided to use Magicjack as one of my main phone service.

The one problem I did encounter was at the beginning when I found that one of my phones wouldn't ring when someone called me. By googling the problem, I found out that this problem is due to the ringer equivalency number (REN) of the phone you are using (google "phone REN" to find out what it is). Most phones have their REN listed at the bottom of the base unit. From my experience, I believe Magicjack will only work for phones that have REN of up to 1.0B (add up all phones in your system to get your total REN. Mine had a corded base with 0.6B REN with 2 more cordless handsets. I figured that made my phone system total to 1.8B REN). Magicjack did ring on a phone that had 0.98B REN. To fix the problem, I bought a multi-handset GE DECT 6.0 (model 28223 Series) which basically has REN 0.0B. Magicjack had no problems ringing with this phone. My phone system was over 3 years old anyway so I didn't mind replacing it.

My system setup is probably an optimum environment for Magicjack although while Magicjack is running on one computer, I have another laptop running wirelessly connected to my cable modem in addition to a desktop connected wired to it also running *and* a Vonage modem connected to it.

To find out if Magicjack is right for you, google reviews on it first and be sure to read up on the system requirements and recommendations from Magicjack users that have had no problems using Magicjack and love using it. These users will offer the most detailed information and they give out tips and tricks to make Magicjack work at its best such as how to set up your system for automatic reboot, optimize your internet connection, set up your USB ports so your computer doesn't power it off, using "thin clients", etc. Be aware that you'll also find a lot of reviews from people who hate Magicjack but most of them seemed to have bought Magicjack when it first came out. I got this to replace an older Panasonic I liked a lot. This phone seems to have every feature that phone had, but with a lighted keypad, smaller footprint and no ugly antennas.

The range seems pretty good. The sound is loud and clear, not extremely loud, but better than I've heard on many cordless phones I have trouble hearing on. The phone can be wall mounted. All the functions seem to work reliably. The clock / calander sets itself with caller ID info the first time you get a call after a power outage.

I've seen reviews stating the ringer can't be turned off. That is false. The base ringer can be turned off using the volume controls on the base and the handset ringer can be turned off in the menu. You have full volume control over both ringers and there are many ring tone choices.

There are a couple complaints about shortish talk time on the battery pack. That may be true. The phone uses a battery pack made from 2 NiMH AAA cells rated at 400mAh. Decent cells are rated much higher these days. I'm going to make my own pack using 1000mAh cells, which should more than double the talk time, but will also increase the charge time from empty.

All in all, it seems like an exceptionally nice phone at a bargain price. But, it may not be for you if you tend to have long phone conversations, unless you replace the battery pack with a higher capacity one. There are higher capacity battery packs available for this phone, just search the model number and add the word battery. I saw several 750mAh packs that would almost double talk time over the stock battery.

EDIT: I did make my own battery pack using two 1000mAH AAA NiMH batteries and the connector from the stock battery. I recently did a 2-hour phone training session using the phone and the battery wasn't even half drained. So, I can now say for sure talk time is beyond excellent with an upgraded battery. Not sure how long the stock battery would last because I replaced it soon after buying the phone. Still like this phone very much!!! It's probably well worth the price, even if you have to upgrade the battery. You may have noticed there are few other phones in the price range that even work properly and many are getting horrible reviews.

I purchased this phone for my elderly mother and I was very please when it arrived. The display window on the handset was much larger than the one she had and the type was large and easy to read. The buttons on the handset were pretty good size and they light up so she can see them. The base is uncluttered functions are clearly labeled.

I have repalced my e4200v1 with this new model.I have two xboxes and a ps3 connected to it.The new model V-2 when I'm hosting a 18 player game on COD black ops it runs super smooth with no lag at all.THE V-1 had some slowdown during the game while hosting.Both models work well and I can say that the new processor in the V-2 is handling the load with ease,you'll be very happy if you pick one up.

This router is worth the cost. Initial setup is so easy. Once connected to internet, you can easily setup to 2.4ghz, 5 GHz and Guest with different user-id and passwords. The security setting is all done automatically and you can easily change it if you want. Make sure to go to admin tab on web to do firmware upgrade. Wireless speed is really fast. Try using the Knowledge base. It has detailed explanations for novice users also.

I have been operating the V2 for about three weeks now (Firmware version 2.0.26.124551). I've been able to "real-world" compare this router in my home with two other excellent dual band wireless routers: the Asus NT-R56U and the Apple Time Capsule, 3rd Generation. I give the V2 five stars because this router delivers the best consistent range and performance in my "heavy wireless device usage home" than any other router I have owned.

Pros:
Setup: Set up in minutes with the included setup disk--I chose to skip the disk and setup via the browser on my iMac. (Both approaches = 3-4 minutes)
Future Proof: Supports IPv6, dual band 5Ghz/2.4Ghz, supports up to 450 Mbps on the 2.4/5 Ghz band
Powerful: Range and throughput in my house exceeded both the Asus NT-R56U and the Apple Time Capsule 3rd Generation. E.g. 5-7 Mbps vs 25+ Mbs at the most distant areas of my house from the router
Load Testing: Exceeded range and performance ( significantly) of the R56U and the TC 3rd Gen during multiple device/heavy use streaming, gaming, computer, iPad connections in my house
Consistent: I haven't run into any performance issues whatsoever with the e4200 V2 after 3+ weeks of continuous operation
Cisco Connect Express: This is a great app for your iPhone/iPad/Android device to monitor and manage your Cisco Home Network ( Very similar to the Apple Airport Utility app)
Editors Choice: Both CNET and PC Magazine awarded the e4200 V2 their "Editors Choice" 2011

Cons:
Runs very warm: Maybe some will call it "hot"--I haven't experienced any issues yet ( that I know of) but it does run warmer than any other wireless router I have owned
Expensive: The Asus Nt-R56U ( another very fast dual band router) might be a better value especially for smaller spaces ( compared to current V1 or V2 list prices)
450Mbps: According to the recent professional reviews you need a 450MBps capable wireless client to experience the "maximum" range and performance from this router (None of my current wireless devices are 450Mbps capable so the max speed I could get was up to 300 Mbps when in very close proximity to the e4200 V2) So if you don't experience "advertised" performance it may be due to your own wireless clients
5Ghz;short range: The 5Ghz band does not have anywhere near the range of the 2.4ghz band--but I think is the same for most current wireless routers. (If your wireless devices are located more than one or two rooms away from the router use the 2.4Ghz band)

For those of you looking for settings for your wireless router to maximize your router's performance in a Home environment try these:
Set Security to "WPA2-Personal" and Channel to "Auto" for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands. Channel Width for the 2.4Ghz band should be set to "20Mhz Only" and 5Ghz should be set to "40Mhz Only". Network mode should be set to "N-Only" for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands. **Note: if you have older wireless devices that only use wireless a,b,or g, then set the 2.4Ghz to "mixed" Network Mode else these devices will not connect to the N-Only network.

Update 1/12/2011:
Apparently there is a recently discovered security issue with most routers that offer WPS ( Wi-Fi Protected Setup) to include the e4200 V2. Until a fix is released by the manufacturers, its probably a good idea to frequently monitor your networks "connected devices" for potential unknown/unwanted visitors. You can always restrict access to unwanted devices by enabling Parental Controls under Access Restrictions/Parental Controls/Target Devices

If your e4200 V2 is running too warm, try turning off the port lights on the back of the router under Setup(Tab)/Basic Setup/then scroll down to bottom of page and set Port Lights to off. (I ended up putting something under the router to lift it up about two inches to increase the airflow under the unit--this resulted in a much cooler continuous operating temperature .

We have a multi-handset phone (which is very helpful due to our ages and mild infirmities). A few of the batteries were dying, so we gave them a decent burial and replaced them all at once and hope they last the approximate same time. It is too soon to tell if these replace-ments will do the job, but are working well right now and we are hoping for the best.

These are great phones, we paired them with the DS6241-5 base unit for a total of 8 phones. The cordless range is fantastic, we have one unit in a barn over 200' from the base until in the house. We also have our Smartphones (HTC Thunderbolts) hooked up via Bluetooth. We have 3 different ring tones for landline, her cellphone, and my cellphone - all with significantly different rings. When our 2-year cable modem commitment expires in November, we'll get rid of our land line and use our cellphones exclusively connected via Bluetooth to the VTech base - no loss in voice quality. We have not identified a single drawback yet with these units. We would buy again.

LOVE this phone! Super easy to set up. Excellent crystal clear sound during calls and for caller ID. Great range in our huge backyard and up 3 flights indoors: huge extended range better than the 5.8GHz phones or 2.4GHzs. Answering machine is the easiest we've ever used: huge simple buttons(no long steps to go through: a button for delete, a button to skip, a button to play,and a button to repeat!), very large display of how many messages came in and easy to tell at a glance IF you have one! 14 minutes of messages. No tape to deal with. DECT 6.0 technology so it doesn't get interference from wireless etc. The handset is so comfortable to hold unlike many other new cordless models. The white color is easy to find in a dimly lit room. The backlit keypad and display are way brighter than other brands, and the keypads are completely lit up, not just the lettering. Great for calls at night or dimly lit rooms. Wall mountable is nice. It's really easy to put the handset back in the cradle in a hurry after a call, unlike others that fall out easily or you have to have it just so or it won't charge correctly. The design is such that when you set it down it won't bump the keys & dial accidentally; I hate that with our other cordless brands! Very sturdy, durable phone (been through 3 moves without a hitch). Extra loud volume on handset and also on answering machine & caller ID: I wear hearing aids but it has been just fine. Menu is exceptionally easy to run through to change settings. It's also hearing aid compatible (T-cell) and it's even a "green" phone: it's recyclable and has a non-toxic coating it says. Many cordless phones have frustrated us for various reasons; this phone is a joy to have.

Good answering machine combo. Phone has good quality sound. Answering machine functions are easy to operate. My 85 year old mother was able to set it up without any assistance.

I do not have much time with my phone, but my friends who know more than I do about cell phones, I say it's an excellent phone. has camera and the photos are clear and beautiful. The Wi-Fi is buenisimo. Wherever I get the signal internet. The only detail I see is that I can not change the language because the window is in English and can not make changes in that regard.
I am very glad to have my cell
